- Safeguarding Adults Week
On this page you will find information about the Ann Craft Trust themes for Safeguarding Adults Week 2024, which took place 18-22 November 2024. This year's theme was 'Working Together'.
Monday: Look, listen, ask: Developing professional curiosity
Today's theme is 'look, listen, act - developing professional curiosity'. Professional curiosity is the capacity and skills of communication to explore and understand what is happening for a person, rather than making assumptions or accepting things at face value. It requires skills of looking, listening, asking direct questions, and being able to hold difficult conversations.
It's important that, no matter what our role, we are all professionally curious. Doing so can help to ensure that we are recognising the signs of abuse and neglect as early as possible, and taking action.

Tuesday: Working in partnership: How to work effectively with the people you support
Today's theme is 'working in partnership: how to work effectively with the people you support'. As part of this, the Ann Craft Trust are encouraging us to consider how we can make Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP), person-centred practice, and co-production, central to service design and professional practice.
We know that these approaches are not without challenge, but we're going to look at how we can overcome these challenges, and celebrate the successes of these approaches.

Wednesday: Establishing professional boundaries
Today's theme is 'establishing professional boundaries'. Good quality relationships are essential when it comes to successful multi-agency working. Professional boundaries can help us to set clear expectations for these relationships.
Today, we're going to consider what happens when multi-agency working isn't working as well as we'd like, and how we can establish appropriate professional boundaries to overcome the challenges of multi-agency working.

Thursday: Recognising exploitation: The ladder of criminality
Today's theme is 'recognising exploitation: the ladder of criminality'. Exploitation is the use of power and control by somebody, over another person. It means taking advantage of somebody for personal or financial gain, and is a form of abuse that factors into many different areas of abuse and neglect. This includes: modern slavery; sexual exploitation; cuckooing; County Lines; and extremism by radicalisation.
Today, we will look specifically at the impact of exploitation on our community, and our responsibilities to report the exploitation of people with care and support needs.

Friday: Professional and organisational learning
Today's theme is 'professional and organisational learning'. We all understand the importance of continual learning and development when it comes to making sure our practice is up-to-date. But, how do we ensure that as well as our own practice learning, that our organisations are also learning and improving systems and processes?
Today we want to ask, "how do we ensure that learning from Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs), and other review processes, is embedded and driving organisational improvement?"
