Homelessness and safeguarding

In December 2024, the West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board identified that there is a learning need in the partnership around homelessness. This was specifically in relation to reducing the stigma experienced by people experiencing homelessness; supporting access to services; and reinforcing the need for trauma-informed care.

This resource pack has been designed to be used by teams, and to provide a starting point for discussions, and policy and practice reflection. It can be used in team meetings, or as part of internal training opportunities.

Person-centred approaches

We have recently updated our learning resources on person-centred approaches, and are pleased to share our new resource, Exploring person-centred approaches

In this resource you will find new information about paternalistic practice, including what paternalistic practice is; the impact of paternalistic practice; and how to avoid it. This resource has been developed in response to our Safeguarding Adults Review in respect of Tom, which highlighted some evidence of paternalistic practice. Therefore, please do ensure that you share this within your organisations.

Supporting adults at risk of choking

Any adult is at risk of choking. However, it is important to be aware that adults within health and social care services may be at an increased risk of choking, for a variety of reasons. We have therefore developed some multi-agency guidance aimed at supporting staff with managing choking risks. Please ensure that you share this widely within your organisations.
